Organization from CP to CM2

The aim of elementary school is to enable every pupil to become an independent and successful learner, while developing and demonstrating a sense of responsibility for themselves and others. Students are ready to experiment with 3 languages – French, German and English– in all dimensions (listening, speaking, reading and writing), as well as developing their artistic and physical tastes and abilities.

The 5 years of elementary school are organized into 2 cycles, from cours préparatoire (CP) to cours moyen deuxième année (CM2). For each of these cycles, teachers define objectives and programs on which they base their teaching, taking into account the pace of acquisition of each pupil.

Our program enables students to progressively develop their skills and knowledge of the fundamental tools of French and mathematics, and to structure and broaden their understanding of the world.

The Common Base of Knowledge, Skills and Culture

The Common Base of Knowledge, Skills and Culture sets out what every student should know and master. It brings together all the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes needed to succeed in school, as an individual and as a future citizen.

The curriculum - Five areas of learning

Languages for thinking and communicating
Methods and tools for learning
Training the individual and the citizen
Natural and technical systems
Representations of the world and human activity

Introduction to plurilingualism

Learning a foreign language means developing an inquisitive mind, a sense of one’s own nationality and culture, and a deep respect for the nationalities and cultures of others.

From a very early age, our students live in an international environment. Language learning is an excellent way to develop awareness of differences, curiosity and the desire to communicate.
Learning a language at an early age facilitates the acquisition of other languages in the future, and improves abilities in areas such as abstract thinking and mathematics.
Students are ready to experience 3 languages – French, German and English – in all their dimensions (listening, speaking, reading and writing).
At the end of elementary school, children have the opportunity to obtain language certifications.

The French language

French occupies a predominant place, as the medium of instruction in many disciplines other than linguistics, and as such, it is the language of the many exams for which our students are preparing.

German

Language of our host country – in the form of a modern language course: students are divided into four groups according to their skills.

English

In the form of a modern language course: students are divided into two groups according to their skills.

The Deutsch + Élémentaire program

Students with the necessary German language skills are included in the Deutsch + Élémentaire program. With this program, they benefit from 3 hours of lessons in German in subjects such as history, geography, science, art and “questioning the world“. Groups are reconsidered at the beginning of each year, depending on the student’s progress.

American International Section (SIA)

The American International Section is a linguistic and bicultural program set up by the French Ministry of Education in cooperation with the United States. What makes it special is that it integrates into the French system teaching not only of the language, but also of American culture.
The training provided in the international section aims to facilitate the integration and reception of foreign students into the French education system, and to train students from the French education system to practice English in depth, in particular through the use of this language in certain subjects.

In this section, students take DNL history-geography classes in English. DNL (Discipline Non Linguistique) is a subject taught in a language other than French; it enables students to use their skills in the English language, while concentrating most of their efforts on the subject they are learning.

My child doesn't speak French

intensive teaching and support to speed up learning French

Integrating a French school can discourage families of non-French nationalities from making this choice. Our school welcomes children of all nationalities, whatever their mother tongue.

For students with little or no command of French, we offer a program of reinforced learning in French called FLSco (Français Langue de Scolarisation). Children are grouped into small classes, allowing the teacher to individualize work as much as possible. This enables children to make rapid progress.

The aim is to teach pupils the French language, while at the same time teaching them to become part of the French school system, so that they can continue their education in a French school as quickly as possible, under the best possible conditions.

Sports

The aim of physical and sports education throughout the schooling process is to train clear-sighted, autonomous, physically and socially educated citizens, with a concern for living together. It encourages children and teenagers to seek well-being and care for their health. It ensures the inclusion in the classroom of pupils with special educational needs or disabilities. Sports classes are held once a week in the school playground or gymnasium. Children go to the swimming pool in CM2.

The library

The school has a library with a wide range of books in all three languages. Books can be borrowed by young and old alike. From an early age, the library can help you develop your reading skills and build up an initial literary culture.

Students are encouraged from an early age to research topics of interest to them, and have access to age-appropriate materials.

Play areas in schools

A number of classrooms feature a space that helps students live together better at school and promotes educational success, offering them the opportunity to indulge freely in playful activities as their time permits.

Project-based teaching

Taking part in sports, cultural and artistic activities makes a major contribution to students’ well-being at school. Arts and culture are key to developing their creativity and sharpening their critical eye.
Our school participates actively in various international projects run by the AEFE, such as Ambassadrices et Ambassadeurs en herbe (AEH), the Kangourou des mathématiques… but also internally such as the rallye lecture, a “competition” organized within the class to cultivate a taste for reading and create a real energy in the class around books, and many other exciting projects that feed the creativity of children throughout the year.
LfiSV offers a wide range of cultural and discovery activities in French, German and English.

After school

Physical activity is an integral part of school life and our students’ learning. They are supervised by experienced coaches who offer our students sports, cultural, artistic or linguistic activities in French, German or English.

After-school activities are organized from 2:30 pm to 4 pm.
