This year the Film Club opens a new cycle built around three major themes The first poses a universal and thought provoking question “Who is guilty” An invitation to look at cinema differently to explore its grey areas and to question what we believe to be true
To explore this theme three powerful films have been selected each rooted in the realities and tensions of today’s world “Anatomie d’une chute” “Parasite” and “Les Misérables”.
The first screening will take place on Tuesday November 25 at 5 30 pm in room A112. Students will begin with “Anatomie d’une chute” winner of the 2023 Palme d’Or a film that plunges viewers into a complex investigation where every detail matters and the truth constantly slips away.
They will examine how justice works how responsibility is assigned and how cinematic choices shape the narrative.
After the 2h30 screening a 30 minute discussion will allow students to reflect on the main themes of the film:
• Justice and society – how courts media and public opinion construct a narrative or assign guilt
• Responsibility – the difficulty of determining the “truth” of an event and defining who is guilty
• Cinematic choices – the use of ellipsis confined space and internal diegetic sound in storytelling
Students can register via Pronote or directly with Ms Germa to join this cycle which encourages critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the world through cinema.
