Learning how to manage difficult situations, quick decision making and problem solving
At LfdD, sport is about far more than the final score. By practising sport, we can learn to live, manage situations and take the initiative. We endeavour to achieve excellence as well as personal development by competing – honing a sense of fair play, leadership, determination and teamwork, both on and off the pitch.

The practice of sport is critical for the growing life of children.
Sporting values
Sharing, responsibility, effort, success are some of the values imparted in physical education and sports classes from the Maternelle (pre-school) through to Terminale (sixth form/senior year) as well as in the training sessions and sports meetings attended through the school. AEFE values continue to be taught through the sporting activities offered in our Lycée (sixth form or junior/senior years).
AEFE’s sports policy resonates with that of the Olympic movement, imparting the values of excellence, friendship and respect, as well as influence.
Excellence
PE has great ambitions for all students and all are encouraged to do their best, irrespective of their physical ability, within a context of positive rivalry.
Respect and friendship
Respect includes the willingness to respect oneself, to respect one’s body and to respect others, the rules of the game and to respect one’s surroundings. Developing friendships through sport, solidarity, team spirit, joy and optimism must surely contribute to building a better, more peaceful world.

All students are deemed to be capable of participating in physical, sporting and artistic activities in school. These activities are mandatory for all but can also be adapted to a range of student abilities – everyone can therefore progress at their own rate, based on their own level and ability. All students train together and share activities with those who may be less able, including disabled students. Physical education is taught from Maternelle to Terminale with mandatory timetabled lessons, programmes and baccalauréat examinations.
Sports week
Every year, we hold a “sports week” at LFdD to promote sport and help students to discover new activities, whether they’re in Primaire, Collège or Lycée. Themes have included rugby, cycling and diversity in European sport.
Sports competitions
Motivated students who meet the required standards will be invited to participate in inter-school competitions throughout the year. Participation in competitions is free of charge and transport costs are covered by the school.
There are around 10 sports competitions over the course of the school year: Tennis, Athletics, Football, Badminton, Swimming, Table tennis, Basketball.
We are sometimes invited to additional events by the AEFE network or by German schools to which we also submit teams or players to compete.
We have also been involved in the last 3 European PE Games (Stockholm 2015, Barcelona 2017, Moscow 2019) as well as RIZ in Zurich in 2018 and the Rugby World Cup in London in 2015.
We are particularly proud to have been invited to organise the European PE Games in 2022.
7th edition of the European PES Games organised by the LfdD
As part of the Sports Association, full educational sports programmes are offered in partnership with the French national education school sports federation (UNSS). From simple meetings to championships taking students to the highest levels of performance (world school championships), every student can live out their passion for sport.
The association is aimed at willing and motivated students. Activities are structured both during the school day as well as out of school. With family consent, students may be excused from some lessons in order to compete in competitions and events.
Extra-curricular sport
LfdD also offers a range of extra-curricular sports activities for students to get involved in (only in Elémentaire).
