From March 18 to 21, 2025, fourteen Première and Terminale students from LFiSV, accompanied by their teachers Ms. Germa, Ms. Pautet and Ms. Berlot, took part in an exceptional experience: the Berlin Euro Parliament (BEP), a large-scale simulation of the workings of the European Parliament. Conducted in French, English and German, this cross-curricular project brought together 250 “MEPs” from Germany, Austria, Poland, the United Kingdom and Canada.
An immersive learning journey into European institutions
Each student was assigned the role of a Member of the European Parliament with a clear mandate: represent a country, a political party and a parliamentary committee. For three days, they debated, drafted amendments, presented resolutions and voted on legislative texts. This democratic lab required thorough preparation: research, understanding key issues, and developing concrete proposals.
This rigorous process enabled students to gain a deeper understanding of the European Union and its institutions. They explored major contemporary challenges such as ecology, migration, economics and digital transformation, while strengthening their critical thinking and synthesis skills.
Skills for the future
The BEP also offered students a unique opportunity to collaborate with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds in a multilingual, multicultural and inclusive environment. They practiced public speaking, persuasion and structured argumentation – valuable skills that will serve them well in higher education and their future professional lives.
The experience was all the more rewarding as one of the legislative proposals drafted by our students was adopted by their committee, and one of our delegates was elected president of her political group – a proud achievement that reflects the commitment, maturity and excellence of our young delegates.
A meaningful project
More than just a role-playing game, the Berlin Euro Parliament is a true school of democracy, where students learn to listen, engage in dialogue, and build together. It aligns perfectly with LFiSV’s educational mission: to shape students who are open to the world, independent, multilingual, and aware of the challenges of the 21st century.
