Remember 3 September, back-to-school day: a sky full of white clouds, children excited about finding their classmates or meeting new ones, just that little bit of excitement that marks the end of the holidays. Since that morning, 100 days have passed. Already!
For the Grande Section pupils, these first 100 days have been punctuated by a host of activities, which are essential in preparing them for the start of CP. They have learnt to form numerical sequences, to count by tens, to write large numbers, and to compose and compare collections. And, of course, they discovered this impressive number: 100!
To mark this symbolic milestone, a 100-day exhibition was organised, which has become an eagerly awaited ritual over the years. Once again this year, the two first-year classes enthusiastically joined the initiative.
100 objects, 100 ideas, 100 ways to create
In the mobility classroom, transformed into an instant gallery, the pupils proudly presented their collections, all consisting of 100 items: Lego constructions, carefully folded origami, colourful works of art, 100 flags to travel across the continents and learn about other countries, 100 boats to set sail on imaginary seas…
Numbers were everywhere: in words, figures, games and calculations. Creativity and rigour came together to create a joyful and instructive exhibition. The CPb pupils even recorded an original audio recording, counting in chorus from 1 to 100.
Parents were given an exclusive tour of their children’s creations, followed by elementary school classes who visited the exhibition in an atmosphere of sharing and curiosity.
Beyond being a festive event, this exhibition meets the educational objectives of Cycle 1, by giving meaning to learning about numbers: comparing, constructing, counting, locating, representing, and above all… playing with quantities!
Well done to everyone for this great work, and we’ll be seeing the Grande Section in September to start the exciting adventure of CP together!
