This year, the lycée inaugurated a brand new Ciné-Club, organised by the economics and social sciences teacher, Mme Germa. Each month, this event offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in cinematographic works associated with subjects such as SES, DGEMC and HGGSP, as well as with other subjects. Participation in the Ciné-Club is completely free: students can attend one session without being obliged to return to the next. Some sessions are open to all levels (seconde, première, terminale), while others are adapted or targeted to a specific level. Each screening is followed by a 30-minute debate, a valuable moment for exchanging, analysing and comparing ideas on the themes addressed.
The first session, open to all students, took place on Monday 11 November. Participants discovered the documentary ‘La ferme des Bertrand’, a moving work by Gilles Perret that retraces 50 years in the life of a family farm. The film explored a number of rich and varied themes, such as social reproduction and transmission, with links to the SES, changes in agriculture, in particular robotisation and changes in the rural economy, the role of women in agriculture and their place in this historically male-dominated environment, as well as the challenges of reconciling family and professional life, and the shaping of bodies through professions (the theme of ‘the body’ is on the syllabus for the Political Science entrance exam).
The documentary provoked some enthralling discussions, enabling the students to reflect on current issues whilst linking them to the content studied in class.
The Ciné-Club has already established itself as a place of cultural discovery and reflection for our students, combining cinematic pleasure with intellectual enrichment. We look forward to the upcoming screenings and the debates they will inspire.
