We’d like to thank the Düsseldorf Dragons for lending us their stadium in Lörick for our rugby touch tournament, the final event of the European PES Games, which took place on Friday June 3.
The nine delegations immediately moved into the shade, as it was very hot and we didn’t want to have our lunch in the sun.
Before giving the teams time to prepare and work out tactics, Mr Gallard explained the rules of the game.
Despite the heat, the first team from Düsseldorf got the tournament off to a good start, winning their first two matches, one against Vilnius, the other against Prague.
However, it was Bratislava who finally came out on top, tied with Düsseldorf but first in the number of tries scored.
So it was Düsseldorf, in keeping with the special rules of the European Games which promote fair play and conviviality, who had the right to lift the trophy at the prize-giving ceremony.
At the closing ceremony, all the athletes, journalists, referees and parents gathered in front of the Dragons clubhouse.
A traditional French aperitif and dinner marked the end of the games, which were held in an atmosphere of joy and good humor.
