5th graders take up plastic and paper recycling

Introducing students to eco-citizenship and raising their awareness of sustainable development are actions that have been part of the school project for several years.
The school is actively involved in the fight against food waste in the canteen, the ADN Carbone 0 project, initiated by the AEFE, and the recent Düsselkronen project.

To continue this fight, the CM2 classes have prepared a new project: waste sorting.

Fighting pollution everywhere and all the time is essential to protecting the planet.
Sorting packaging and paper helps considerably, not only to reduce the amount of waste, but also because this packaging can be recycled, thus saving natural resources.
This is already the case in our homes, but outside, in the streets, in natural spaces or at school, there’s still a long way to go.

Taking responsibility is also an educational exercise.
That’s why, without wasting any time, the CM2 students are getting involved in another eco-responsible project involving all the elementary school classes.

Here is the garbage can project that we, the CM2s, helped to set up in several stages:

First of all, the school wanted to introduce 3 types of garbage can per class, so as to implement the same selective sorting in every classroom in the school: a blue one for paper and cardboard, a yellow one for plastic and packaging, and a grey one for organic waste.

1 In September/October, the two classes of CM2 went to make an inventory of all the dustbins in the school.

2. Based on this inventory, the manager has ordered the missing blue, yellow and grey garbage cans.

3. In November/December, we distributed 3 garbage cans to each class at the elementary school, on which we stuck stickers corresponding to the waste.
The primary school now has a “Pôle de Tri Trilectif”.

Since January 24, the cleaning company has been emptying only the gray garbage cans every evening.
The CE2, CM1 and CM2 classes themselves empty their blue and yellow garbage cans into the outside containers.

In addition, the CE2, CM1 and CM2 classes are responsible, on a rota basis, for emptying the garbage cans of the kindergarten, CP and CE1 classes twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays.

This system will soon be introduced in secondary schools.
