As part of a cross-curricular project combining technology and creativity, our CM1a and 4ème A pupils have been working on a real wooden bookshelf for our school playground. From design to hands-on manufacturing and even learning specialised terminology, our pupils have been involved at every stage of the process. Furthermore, they are also the authors of our article below. We give them the floor to present their project and we look forward to pleasing you!

As part of a cross-curricular project in technology, the CM1a and 4eA classes made a book box for the school playground…
To do this, we went through 6 workshops:
- 3D model using Tinkercad software
- Drawing and measurements
- Manufacture of the box
- Crafting to learn how to handle tools
- Specific vocabulary in CM1a class
- Essay writing in CM1a class
In the laboratory, we created 3D models of book boxes on Tinkercad software with Mrs Elmestikou, each with its own characteristics. We also measured and calculated the perimeters of various polygons. Finally, we had to draw plans on millimetric paper and convert measurements, with the precious help of Mrs Spohr and Mrs Ruault-D’Inca.
In the courtyard, the Hausmeister showed us how a shelf is built, including the various stages of construction and assembly. This workshop was a practical application of everything we had learned.
Mme Soubelet was keen to get us really hands-on, i.e. drilling, sawing, assembling, sanding and nailing. With the help of Mrs Spieker, they explained how to use the tools without hurting ourselves.
In CM1a, we learnt new vocabulary words related to making shelves (such as pliers, hammers, drills, etc.) with Clémence Bernardino. We wrote a report on the workshops, produced a poster to explain the use of the book box and, finally, we wrote an article for the LfiSV website with Mme Chardon.
The CM1a have finished painting the box that will be placed in the courtyard under the préau!
It was a wonderful collaboration between primary and secondary schools!
