As part of the study of the novel ‘The Great Gatsby’ by F. Scott Fitzgerald with Mr Bateman, American English teacher in the American International Section (AIS), the Seconde students demonstrated their creativity and analysis by producing posters illustrating three key scenes from the novel.
The study goes beyond simple narrative comprehension: the students analyse in detail the construction of the characters, the symbols and the stylistic techniques used by the author to capture the atmosphere of the Roaring Twenties. By creating these posters, they apply their analytical and stylistic skills. Each creation includes quotations carefully chosen to reflect not only the central themes and richness of Fitzgerald’s style, but also to demonstrate their in-depth understanding of the work’s central themes and unique style, the American dream, social criticism and the quest for identity.
This work invites students to relate the text to broader concepts, while developing their ability to interpret and communicate their ideas in a visual and argumentative way, and enables them to take greater ownership of the work and hone their critical reading skills.

Created in cooperation with the United States, the American International Section (AIS) now has more than 73 students, from CM2 to Terminale. In addition to in-depth language teaching, the section offers total immersion in American culture, including subjects such as literature and history. This bicultural approach, within the French education system, prepares students to thrive in a globalised world.
